ActiveCampaign vs Brevo (2026): ~$189 vs ~$17 at 10K Contacts

Bluey Email team·Updated 2026-10-27·7 min read
The short version

ActiveCampaign has the deepest automation builder in the mid-market but bills per contact, sells transactional email and its sales pipeline as add-ons, and gives one user on its first two plans. Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) bills per email sent with contacts effectively unlimited, and includes transactional email on every plan including free — but marketing automation only starts on its Standard plan. At roughly 10,000 contacts our tested comparison put Brevo near $17 a month and ActiveCampaign near $189 before add-ons (June 2026). Choose ActiveCampaign for genuinely complex automation or a Salesforce/Dynamics integration; choose Brevo for a large list you email occasionally and transactional mail on the same bill.

These two are compared constantly and are built on opposite ideas: one charges for the people you store, the other for the emails you send.

ActiveCampaign is an automation platform with email attached. Brevo — called Sendinblue until 2023 — is a sending platform that grew automation and a CRM. That difference decides almost every row below, and it means the right answer depends less on features than on your list size, how often you email it, and how complicated your flows really are.

Pricing: per contact vs per email

ActiveCampaign prices on contacts, with your monthly send allowance set as a multiple of that count. Headline prices are quoted billed annually. Because transactional email, SMS, WhatsApp and the Pipelines CRM are add-ons, the plan price is a floor: add the modules you will actually use before comparing it with anything. The detail is in ActiveCampaign pricing explained.

Brevo prices on monthly email volume — Starter from 5,000 emails a month, Professional from 150,000 — so a large list mailed occasionally is cheap, and a small list mailed daily is not. Watch three charges: the Brevo footer on lower tiers (paid removal on Starter), SMS credits bought separately, and one landing page on Standard. The detail is in Brevo pricing explained.

Work out your monthly send volume first. 50,000 subscribers mailed twice a month is 100,000 sends — cheap on Brevo, expensive on ActiveCampaign. 3,000 subscribers mailed daily is 90,000 sends — and the gap narrows sharply.

Automation

ActiveCampaign's builder is the strongest in the mid-market: multi-step, multi-trigger, conditional, with 950+ prebuilt recipes. The catch is Starter's limit of five actions per automation — a welcome flow with a wait, a condition and two emails is already at the ceiling — so real use starts on Plus.

Brevo's Standard plan unlocks unlimited multi-step workflows, A/B testing and send-time optimisation. It is capable for welcome series, cart recovery and re-engagement, but it is not ActiveCampaign's equal for deeply branched, multi-trigger logic.

Transactional email

This is Brevo's clearest advantage. API, SMTP, outbound webhooks and unlimited log retention are on every Brevo plan, free included. On ActiveCampaign, receipts, password resets and confirmations are an add-on at every tier. If you run a store or a SaaS product, price that in.

CRM and seats

ActiveCampaign is often recommended as the CRM-plus-email choice, but pipeline management, deal records and lead scoring sit in the paid Pipelines add-on. Seats are tight: one user on Starter and Plus, so two people working on email pushes you to Pro on headcount alone. Brevo's CRM is lighter, with contact scoring on Professional, which also carries 10 seats.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose ActiveCampaign if your automations are genuinely complex, you need Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics integration, or the flows you want are impossible on simpler tools.
  • Choose Brevo if your list is large relative to how often you email it, you want transactional email on the same bill, or you send in bursts — its pay-as-you-go credits do not expire.
  • Avoid ActiveCampaign if you mostly send newsletters and a welcome series: buying automation depth you never build is the most expensive mistake in this category.
  • Avoid Brevo Starter if you need any automation at all — Standard is the real entry plan.

A third option: send-based, with automation on every plan

Bluey Email bills on emails sent like Brevo, so a big list costs nothing to keep, and includes transactional email on every plan — including the free one. Unlike Brevo Starter, every Bluey plan includes automations (3 on Spark, 25 on Grow, unlimited on Business), and the built-in CRM with lead scoring comes with Grow at $30 a month. At 10,000 sends a month, Spark is $14. If ActiveCampaign's add-ons or Brevo's automation gate is what brought you here, compare Bluey vs ActiveCampaign and Bluey vs Brevo, or see our pricing.
