A prospective student who enquired last year and did not enrol is a genuine prospect for the next intake. Per-contact billing charges you monthly to keep them; send-based billing charges when you actually email them, which for a deferred prospect is a handful of times a year.
Enquiry to enrolment is an email problem
Prospectus requests, open days, application nudges, offer follow-ups and re-enrolment — all sequenced, all seasonal, and all sent to a list that grows every intake and never shrinks.
Volume spikes around open days, application deadlines and results. The plan moves up for those months and back down afterwards, with no annual commitment holding you at the peak tier.
Application acknowledgements, portal notifications and deadline reminders are transactional. Running them separately from your marketing means two vendors and two sending reputations — and it is usually the transactional domain that quietly stops being monitored.

Enquiry-to-application nurture
The sequence between requesting a prospectus and submitting an application is where most enquiries are lost. Answer the questions people do not ask — cost, entry requirements, what the first year is actually like — rather than sending more brochure.
Open day lifecycle
Registration, reminders, a practical day-before email, then two different follow-ups for attendees and no-shows. The no-show follow-up is the one that is always skipped and it recovers a meaningful share.
Application deadline sequence
Triggered on application status rather than a date, so someone who has started but not submitted gets a nudge and someone who submitted does not. Requires the applicant data to reach Bluey, via the API or a sync.
Offer-holder conversion
The gap between an offer and enrolment is long, quiet, and where competitors do their work. A structured offer-holder sequence is the single highest-leverage flow in the whole cycle.
Deferred-enquiry re-engagement
Everyone who enquired and did not enrol, contacted ahead of the next intake. Free to store, cheap to email, and a warmer audience than any new acquisition.
Built for whichever shape your team is.
Independent schools and colleges
Admissions plus parent communications, on one list with segments per year group.
Training providers and course businesses
Rolling intakes rather than an annual cycle, with re-enrolment as the main growth lever.
Universities and departments
Faculty-level segmentation with per-domain sending, so one department's campaign cannot affect another's delivery.
The three questions that come up first.
Q1Can we trigger emails from our application system?
Yes, through the API or a webhook — post an event when an application status changes and use it as a trigger. For lower-volume connections, Zapier bridges most systems without a developer. Anything time-critical should use the API rather than middleware, which can poll on a delay.
Q2How do we handle communications for under-18s?
Carefully, and it is a policy question before it is a platform one. Most data-protection regimes treat children's data as requiring additional protection, and several require a parent or guardian as the contact. Segment parents and students separately and take advice on the consent position for your jurisdiction — no platform setting substitutes for that.
Q3Can different departments send independently?
Yes. Multiple sending domains with per-domain DKIM and reputation, so a faculty campaign that generates complaints does not affect another department's delivery. Seats and role-based permissions keep each team in its own workspace.
Q4Our list has years of old enquiries. Should we bring them all?
Bring the ones you can lawfully email and who have engaged at some point. Storage is free, so the temptation is to bring everything — but an old enquiry file bounces and complains, and it will do so on your very first send from a new platform, when reputation is still being established. Re-permission or suppress the rest.
Bring your list. See it work.
